Dear future equestrian guests and their parents, if we’re talking about children!

I would like to mention a few principles about riding horses in Equital.

First, for the potentional cross-country riders. I’ve been seeing the disappointment, incomprehension or even anger of the people who came to us for cross-country riding yet they don’t get the opportunity to do so for years, because we don’t allow them to go out after practice riding. I personally find cross-country riding the best, most joyful and most beautiful out of all the horse riding activities. The reason I started this business was with the intention to share this experience with others. I didn’t like riding in arenas, I wanted to go riding outdoors by all means. I was riding good and bad, young and old horses, there were times I fell off while other times I didn’t. I was lucky that I never got seriously injured. I’ve been to many riding arenas (more than 250). I could see the way they operate, what they do right and the things they do wrong. These were the experiences that influenced the creation of Equital.

To get to the point, I’d like to pin down the fact that I would not want to critize anyone, either riding arenas or equestrians. I know exactly that there are some capabilities that can’t be avoided. Many riding arenas have riding classes. These are usually bigger groups, and they ride together as a group. This type of teaching has an advantage; the horses they are riding in these classes are usually routinish, older horses that can do any task by word, this way it’s easier to learn the basics of horse back riding. As the saying goes: “Experienced horse, beginner rider.” However it has a disadvantage; many times it’s actually the horse that does the real work, even if the equestrian does nothing or when they do the task wrong. A sloppy rein, wobbly boots or incorrect posture won’t stop the horse in doing the task that it has been repeating for a thousand times. Furthermore, the high number in these classes doesn’t make all time personalised correction possible, and some riders can continue to repeat their mistakes.

Equital is located in the middle of a national park. We can go in almost any direction, and some places are even untouched and the area is full of wildlife. The average age of our horses is around 10 years. They spend nearly their whole lives in an approximately 15 hectar field with their mates, which is much closer to their natural needs than any luxurius barn or stable. Their behaviour is also closer to natural, they are more temperamental and energetic.

Equital trains equestrians individually almost without exception, riding in classes isn’t very common. We teach equestrians proper helpings in all cases, and we also train our horses to do so. Only those riders are allowed to go cross-country that are able to confidently manage the horse in all three gaits. Not because the horse would be disobedient, but because based on the landscape there may be unexpected situations, starting from the appearance of wild animals to extreme road conditions. Given the reasons mentioned above there are some cases when the rider who goes riding more than once in a week doesn’t understand why we won’t recommend them for cross-country riding. They don’t accept the fact that their knowledge has more risks than usual. It’s not in our interest to criticise anyone’s knowledge or destroy anyones enthusiasm, but the risk is always ours, even if many of them are willing to sign any release papers. Since they are riding on our horses in our riding arena, this responsibility can not be re-assigned. But let’s set the legal issues apart. My conscience can’t take this risk. I would not want to stand in front of any parent, relative, husband or wife and tell them that their loved one got injured, or even worse, got irreversible injuries, because we took them cross-country riding despite of our opinion. Horse riding is risky enough in itself.

About the equipment. We don’t expect any specific riding clothing, but closed shoes and long pants are absolutely necessary. Wearing a helmet is compulsory, but if you don’t have one, we can provide you one.

We only teach classic English style riding, we trained our horses for that, too. You are not able to ride in any other styles here.

You can go horse riding once a day. At Equital our horses’ mental and physical health is important to us, so to be able to use them long term we must limit their daily work load. Also we’d like if the guest after you could also ride a well rested, healthy horse. The health of our horses is the next most important thing to us right after our guests’ safety. That’s why we won’t allow you to intentionally or unintentionally harm them. We reserve the right to decide what serves widening your knowledge the best. Trust us, we have the experience.

Please be at the stabbles in time for your appointment. On the one hand because if you’re late then the timeline for all the riders after you will be delayed, on the other hand please, have respect for us and the horse by not making us wait for you.

On our part, we will do everything so you can leave with more riding knowledge than you arrived with, wether you are a beginner or more advanced rider. We don’t turn our back on anyone, no one is hopeless. Unfortunely, horsemanship isn’t easy to acquire, it’s not a rapid, instant, 21st century thing. You need a lot of patience, persistence, determination and empathy for the horses. A horse is not a bicycle that you can prop against the wall after you used it.

That’s it briefly. If anything above isn’t acceptable to you, please, don’t choose us!
